Would anyone else care to share I mean if you know vb6 that's great, but if you are just getting into programming I am not sure what learning vb6 uniquely offers for "today's computing" that .NET doesn't co-opt. A couple of things that occur to me personally are the ease of creating and using COM objects, and the ease of creating wrappers for the Win32 API. A programmer(Like You) can put together an application using the components provided with Visual Basic itself. NET/C# to wrap Win32, so that's not really an advantage for classic VB. The programmer can build applications by using components provided by Microsoft Visual Basic programs written in Visual Basic can also use the Windows API, but requires additional external function declarations. VB.Net (or VB7.0) is not an upgrade to VB 6.0; it is a completely new language written from the ground up to be compatible with Microsofts "dotnet" Common Language Runtime. So Microsoft designed 2 special API flags for this case: LOAD_IGNORE_CODE_AUTHZ_LEVEL for LoadLibraryEx() to load DLLs and SANDBOX_INERT for CreateRestrictedToken() to load executables.
